  • New logistics centre in “Star Park” Halle with 70,000 sqm
  • It is the company’s largest logistics centre to date
  • Central position in Europe and ideal connections to traffic networks
  • home24 permanently creates more than 100 jobs in the region

Berlin, April 3rd 2019 – home24, the leading online platform for Home & Living in Continental Europe and Brazil, today opened a new logistics centre in Halle (Orionstrasse 16, 06116 Halle/Saale). With a storage area of 70,000 sqm, it is one of the largest newly developed properties in Saxony-Anhalt and is, to date, the largest logistics centre of the online furniture company. From here, home24 will deliver to seven European markets primarily shipping large furniture items such as sofas, wardrobes and beds.

The transport connections in Halle (Saale) are ideal for the logistics of home24. There is a direct connection to the A 14 motorway and the train system. This shortens delivery times and allows for resource efficient deliveries. With that, home24 achieved one of their main self-set goals of 2019.

“The new logistics centre in Halle (Saale) enables us to organise the storage and delivery of our products even more efficiently”, says Christoph Cordes, Co-CEO of home24. “We have thereby fulfilled an important requirement for realizing our aims of strong growth and strengthening our market position. On behalf of the entire Executive Board, I would like to thank everybody who was involved for their good cooperation in making this project come to fruition and for their constructive support.”

home24 does not deliver the products from Halle (Saale) itself, but works together with forwarding companies and this new facility will also benefit local forwarding companies. In addition, home24 intends to create more than 100 permanent jobs at its new logistics centre.

The official handover of the property to home24 happens today with Phd. Bernd Wiegand, Lord mayor of Halle (Saale), and Markus Meyer, Head of Northern Germany bei Goodman, as well as around 100 guests from business, politics and media. The first piece of furniture was already shipped from Halle (Saale) in February. The complete commissioning of all six halls is planned for the end of May.

Lord Mayor Dr. Bernd Wiegand: "Star Park is an excellent infrastructure hub with access to the motorway, rail, airport and public transport. The routes to the administration are short and decisions are made quickly. Central contacts are available to all investors to ensure sustainable support. The lively scientific landscape, the rich culture and the family friendliness are location factors that make Halle (Saale) equally attractive for investors, young families and skilled workers".

Markus Meyer, Head of Northern Germany bei Goodman, explains: “The first-class infrastructure and location of Star Park Halle help to promote national and international business activities. That’s why Halle (Saale), with its proximity to Leipzig, is playing an increasingly important role for companies operating throughout Europe. This is just one of the reasons why we have been investing in this region for so long. Further project developments in the region are already being planned.”

The construction of the logistics centre in Halle (Saale) – as well as the logistics centres in Ludwigsfelde near Berlin and Walsrode (Lower Saxony) – was carried out by real estate developer Goodman for home24. As planned, the 70,000 sqm logistics unit was done after a construction period of around seven months.
